VINCENT JOHN ANNOUNCES NEW EP, TANGERINE, RELEASING THROUGHOUT 2018
PROLIFIC CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED SONGWRITER TEAMS UP WITH TOP-TIER PRODUCERS FOR SIX-SONG EP
Vincent John, guitarist and songwriter for soul icon Lee Fields & The Expressions, announces his second solo project EP, Tangerine, dropping as singles throughout 2018. Tangerine is a collection of six tracks that see this prolific and talented young songwriter team up with notable collaborators Marcos Garcia (aka Chico Mann,) Ryan Spraker (Weezer,) Patrick Brown (Chromeo, Toro Y Moi). Old school tones mixed with timeless songwriting techniques and thought-provoking lyrics, create a stimulating blend of Indie, Soul and Pop that is Tangerine.
As social and political tensions garner the spotlight of mainstream media, it can be a challenge to avoid the lingering aftershock of hopelessness, a scenario Tangerine aims to relieve. On this sentiment, Vincent expounds “I want to make people feel good and relate to the songs. The main lyric of ‘Tangerine,’ the title track of the EP, is a mantra- “feel the tangerines in your arms” means realize all that is good in your life. It’s easy to spiral downward but when we remind ourselves of the blessings in life it can be beautiful again.”
Hard-hitting emotion-evoking existential themes are explored through a number of different approaches and points of view that open the songs up for listener interpretation, while continually searching for meaning, drive, and purpose. The first two tracks, the synth-infused “Shiny Car” and “Beverly Hills” are available now, both receiving critical praise upon release. Following the momentum of acclaim from top-tier outlets Billboard and Impose, 2018 has seen consistent feedback, with Culture Collide calling Vincent’s arrangements “invigorating with an undercurrent of poetic melancholy,” and PopDust complimenting the combination of “stylish pop melodies, buff rhythms, and polished elegant harmonics into smooth, contagious music.”
With plans to support the EP with a tour later this year, Vincent’s purposeful emotion-charged blend of music will be on full display throughout 2018. A rapidly emerging songwriter who has learned first-hand from musical icons continues to refine his sound a sound in Tangerine, a proper follow-up to 2016’s critically acclaimed debut EP Never Go Back.
